Polskie przedsiębiorstwa, uczelnie wyższe i instytuty badawcze złożyły w 2020 roku 483 zgłoszeń patentowych do EPO (Europejskiego Urzędu Patentowego ). Jest to o 4,3% więcej niż w roku ubiegłym.

Według indeksu patentowego (EPO Patent Index 2020) najwięcej zgłoszeń dokonał Uniwersytet Jagielloński (9 zgłoszeń). Za nim uplasowały się: Adamed Pharma (8 zgłoszeń), Uniwersytet Warszawski (7 zgłoszeń), Politechnika Śląska (6 zgłoszeń) i Uniwersytet Technologiczno-Przyrodniczy (6 zgłoszeń).

Polska dokonała najwięcej europejskich zgłoszeń patentowych w obszarze „procesy termiczne i aparatura” – 46 zgłoszeń (wzrost o 2,2%) . Kolejnymi obszarami technologii były: „technologie medyczne” (spadek o 17,4%), „produkty farmaceutyczne” (wzrost o 11,8%) oraz „transport” (wzrost o 3,1%). Największy wzrost – o 700% w stosunku do poprzedniego roku zanotowaliśmy w zgłoszeniach z obszaru „technologii komputerowej”. „Biotechnologia” uzyskała wzrost o 200% a „meble, gry” wzrost o 220%.
